What's with the name?We thought you'd never ask. Ok, here's a break down: kickass \'kik-,as\ - adjective
tu·tor \ 'tyu-,ter\ - noun
If you haven't guessed already, we take a lot of pride in our tutors. We like to think of ourselves as a network of tutors rather than a company. This network started with two PhD graduate students at UCLA back in 2007. We've since grown to include more tutors in our network who share the same passions and teaching philosophy. While all of our tutors have extensive teaching experience, they also share our goal of empowering students. How do I get started with tutoring?Call us or email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . We need 3 pieces of information from you to start : a contact phone number/email, the general area you live in, and the subject you need tutoring in. After that, we'll ask you a few more questions to try and understand the specifics of your needs. This will help us greatly when matching you to one of our tutors. We'll answer any questions you may have, and then a tutor will contact you to set up the first appointment. How do I pay?We only accept credit card payments, which we process through PayPal. You don't need to have a PayPal account in order to pay, just a credit card. We invoice directly to your email on the 1st of the month (unless you'd prefer every 2 weeks). All invoices are due 15 days after they are sent. Billing is done in increments of 0.25 hours, and the invoice will show a breakdown of the hours and include notes of what was covered during each session. What is your cancellation policy? If you need to cancel a session, please call us no later than 24 hours in advance. If a cancellation request is made after that, we'll have to charge a half hour's rate. The reason we do this is that most of our tutors make their living off of freelance opportunities. Often times when last minute cancellations are made, they lose opportunities elsewhere. Additionally, we lose the opportunity to place that tutor with another student during that time. How do you ensure the quality of your tutors? We screen our tutors to ensure that they posses these minimum qualities : a degree from a prestigious university, atleast 2+ years of experience tutoring/teaching, and a track record of helping students succeed academically. Beyond that, we also check references, run background checks, and put our tutors through a training process before they start to work with us. We know that there are unambigious qualities of highly effective tutors, and we look for those in all our hires. However, a succesful tutor will also have good "chemistry" with the student. This is less of a science and more of an art, and we offer the first hour for free as a risk-free guarantee for you. Do I need to prepare anything for my tutoring session?Yes. Private tutoring is a relationship, and so requires both parties to put in effort. On our side, our tutors will come well-prepared and will occasionally assign "homework" which is really just extra practice problems. Since people generally forget 60% of what they learned during a day by the following day, effort is required on your end too. That effort inludes preparing for the session beforehand, and following up on any assigned "homework". We can't stress this enough : our tutors will not spoon-feed you the material or do your homework for you :) . |
